Synopsis
Sparrow is a faith-based drama adapted from a true story of finding belonging and personal identity after adoption.
In 1969, Sweden, Aggie Hurst prepares to meet her biological father, David Flood. Her newfound half-brothers warn her that their dying father is embittered by the tragedies of his missionary work and will fly into a rage if she mentions Jesus.
In 1921, Congo, David and Svea Flood build a church outside a forbidden village and pray for many African congregants. Despite their efforts, they convert only one: a boy named Ruhigita. Two years later, Svea dies giving birth to Aina, and David, grief-stricken and in declining health, disavows the Congo and God. He abandons Aina to another missionary couple’s care, but soon after, Aina’s new guardians are poisoned and die.
The Bergs, barren missionaries from America, rescue Aina, change her name to Aggie, and bring her home, raising her with love and faith. Aggie battles for permanent immigration status as well as personal identity. She finds love with Dewey Hurst, and together they navigate numerous challenges before ultimately, settling in Kirkland, Washington where Dewey becomes the President of Northwest University.
Years later, Aggie travels to Sweden, where she reunites with her birth family and leads her disillusioned father, David, to Jesus. At an International Conference, Aggie meets Ruhigita, now a prominent Christian leader in Africa. Her journey culminates in a triumphant return to the Congo where she witnesses significant grace in her parents’ spiritual legacy and uncovers her own extraordinary heritage.
